You remember when Bush had pleaded to the United Nations asking for Saddam Hussein to either disarm or disclose his so-called weapons of mass destruction or face serious consequences? And when Hussein didn't, it gave an indicator to the United States to invade Iraq, without Congressional approval?
The same thing may end up happening to Obama over the situation in Libya.
When British Prime Minister David Cameron proposed the the idea of a no-fly zone over Libya, many countries including France and Italy supported the notion and the United Nations felt it was a good idea.
Now it seems there is a great deal of hypocrisy within the United Nations over the so-called "no fly zone". Critics say members of the UN call it unnecessary for any air strikes launched by Britain, France and the United States, even after Defense Secretary Robert Gates had informed Congress that air strikes would be necessary, if a no-fly zone were to be imposed.
Even with international attention from countries supporting the UN resolution and participating in air strikes, there appears to be little determent from Moammar Gaddafi and his regime who are vowing a long and bloody fight against the rebel opposition.
But perhaps most surprising of all is the hypocrisy of the liberal left in America, now angry at President Obama for supporting the UN resolution and to support the military intervention in Libya. So after weeks of supporting the so called "protesters overthrowing the dictator", now critics are saying we should say out of Libya and avoid another mismanaged catastrophe like we had in Iraq.
Like Bush, Obama called for military intervention without the approval of Congress. The difference is that weapons of mass destruction were not found in Iraq, and with Libya, you have a dictator slaughtering his own people.
As usual though, the liberal left and mainstream news media are silent on this particular issue.
Independent Word is a commentary/opinion blog to discuss political issues, for Americans fed up with failed partisanship and an ineffective government.

Obama ignorance is shocking
As the United States and the rest of the world apparently continues to poor gasoline all over the place and set themselves on fire, President Obama has decided to celebrate by bringing Motown to the White House as a tribute to Black History Month. Simply unbelievable.
I honestly think Obama's ignorance and his contradictions are just about as worse as the Bush Administration, hence Obama's nickname "President Extension of George W. Bush".
Shortly after the upheaval began in the Middle East, particularly in Egypt, all President Obama did for an entire week and a half is demand that President Mubarak must resign, never mind the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood was helping provoke the unrest in the first place, and never mind the fact that Egypt helped keep the peace with Israel, something that the Muslim Brotherhood has wanted to destroy for quite some time.
Yet on Wednesday during his press conference, President Obama addressed the unrest in Libya for the first time in almost nine days since it began. In his speech, he refused to even ask for Gaddafi to resign, let alone even mention his name. He also seemed to completely ignore the fact that the spiritual cleric of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, called for the assassination of Gaddafi and acknowledged that it will be the primary focus of the Muslim Brotherhood to continue to destabilize the Middle East and whip out Israel.
Why is President Obama reluctant to acknowledge the Muslim Brotherhood's plans and why is he forgetting all about Gaddafi, when Gaddafi himself also has deep resentment against Israel and is an even worse dictator than Mubarak was?
In addition to completely ignoring the facts in the Middle East, President Obama is all about standing with the unions today, after the Wisconsin Assembly passed a bill that would break union rights, to help pass Wisconsin's budget. If anything, that should be a plus. It is about time that someone in the political spectrum finally woke up and realized that unions are one of the primary reasons why States all across America are in critical financial condition. Maybe if he actually understood facts, the President would call for union reform.
This President has not even made an effort to keep any of his so called campaign promises on "hope and change", its all about the status quo as far as he is concerned; continuously catering to the special interest groups and the far left socialist agenda.
Obviously we are living in a country that is no longer represented in a Democratic Republic and we probably don't even know what we stand for anymore in this country. When you have a President like this that is completely out of touch with reality, you have to question the motive.
Perhaps he really is just ignorant. Or perhaps, he, like the rest of the Arab World, doesn't like Israel either.

Congress sucks!
Don't take my word for it. Take a look at a recent Gallup poll. Only 13% of Americans actually approve of our U.S. Congress. Kind of makes you wonder what exactly is going on in the heads of that 13%.
This is the lowest approval rating in 30 years, according to the Gallup poll.
But just take a look at Congress' track record over the last several years, whether its the House or the Senate. When the Democrats took control of both houses in 2006, they complained about how pathetic and horrible President Bush was, yet the freeloading deer-trapped-in-headlights Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did nothing to enforce impeachment proceedings against him, even though she vowed to have "the most honest, most ethical and transparent Congress in our nation's history..."
How did that work out for you Madam Speaker? Virtually no transparency has existed.
This is the same Congress that did nothing in preventing the financial collapse of 2008. Many of the problems with financial and insurance institutions on Wall Street, the failure of the Securities and Exchange Commission to regulate and government sponsored lending entities including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac which were sinking into bankruptcy, were all under the watch of Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Chris Dodd.
This is also the same Congress that has for the most part been entirely ignoring the American people for the better part of two years, for the fact that they've been playing rubber stamps of President Obama's radical agenda. Some of the critical issues this last year included Arizona's new immigration law. Congress publicly criticized it, favored Mexican President Felipe Calderon's opposition of our laws and allowed Attorney General Eric Holder to sue Arizona, even though many of the leading polls showed that between 60% and 70% of Americans were supporting Arizona's law. Another critical issue involved Americans largely opposing the Health Care Law, yet Congress went ahead with it and jammed it down everyone's throat, without even looking at all of the major provisions.
Just like what Congressman John Conyers admitted. "We don't read the bills, it would take up too much time and delay the process..."
In another point of drama this year, Senator Lindsay Graham says we should invade Iran and overthrow that country's entire government. Yet while he has a point with relation to the dangers Iran could pose to the U.S. and Israel in particular, is that something we need at this very moment? I'm not questioning Iran's nuclear ambitions that it has to whip Israel off the face of the Earth, or that it has developed a relationship with Venezuela and North Korea, but Senator Graham seems to be oblivious to the fact that China has nuclear weapons, so does Pakistan and India. Hell, we have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the entire world!
My point being, the U.S. has enough problems right at home. A $14 trillion national debt, about $115 trillion in unfunded federal financial obligations, unemployment just a point under 10%, jobs being outsourced, people loosing their homes and a Federal Reserve that prints money out of thin air. Congress sits up on Capitol Hill and twiddles their thumbs on the DREAM Act, Don't Ask, Don't Tell and the Bush Tax Cuts, yet its time to get to the core of our problems.
A clown like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad can wait.
It just goes to show how incompetent and unrepresentable our Congress has been over the last several years. No wonder why its fallen to an all time low. Some have even argued that if the approval rating of Congress even matters?
Well it should if they're the ones we're paying to represent us. Oh, I forgot, they don't represent us, they're owned by the global elites, major corporations and special interest groups.
